This game is a crazy unique puzzler/social sim where you play as loser burnout Vincent Brooks as he deals with girl problems.

--Gameplay--

You switch between hanging out with your fellow loser burnout frienda from highschool at a local bar, and talking to those same friends anonamously as sheep in a nightmare world where you all need to solve puzzles in order to scale a giant tower.

--What I like--

It's got a chill atmosephere/vibes all around, and the writing is super camp but compelling giving it an incredible sense of hangout-ability. It's a lot of fun just chilling out as Vincent. Sitting around running up a tab you'll never be able to pay off and vague texting you're girlfriend who you're not ready to marry is a lot more fun than you would expect.

Cave Story

You play as a little robot who wakes up in a cave, and watch as a story unfolds. You can still download and play the OG freeware version on several different platforms.

--Gameplay--

It can be compared to metroid style games, but is widely considered it's own genre. You jump around, shoot, find upgrades and explore a cave system on an island inhabited by very cute little creatures. There's a lot of different options when it comes to what items you gain as well as multuple endings so it's fun doing multiple playthroughs.

--What I like--

The music is cool, the art is cute, the physics make your little character a joy to hop around as and the story and characters are really compelling. This is one of the first modern indie games having come out in like 2004-2006, so it was kind of the blueprint for many things you see today, but also there still isn't anything quite like it .

Braid

A very introspective puzzle platformer where you read poetry and kill yourself and stuff. It's probably the most pretentious game ever made, but it also really it that deep.

--Gameplay--

2D puzzle game where you can reverse time and explore like 6 worlds, each with it's own unique mechanic added. Each world and mechanic is based around a short staory about the protagonist and his feelings or experiences. The game challenges you to not only solve puzzles to really think inward as well as outward.

--What I like--

The music, graphics and story are probably the most direct arguement for videogames being art. It's all so beautiful and timeless as music and paintings tend to be. I like that it's mostly an exploration of concepts being expressed through the language of a puzzle platformer. The story itself is fine, but personal meaning that can be projected onto and derived from it, and how that's a central part of the game's design is one of a kind in it's quality and execution. I can go on for days about all of this, but I will say that it's something that hits hard for me but will not not resonate at all with others.

Disco Elysium

A couple of detectives convey the human experience in eastern Europe. Everyone who completes it immediately becomes the most annoying person ever in how much they start reccomending people play it.

--Gameplay--

Asymmetrical point and click RPG where your stats are the different aspects of your character's cognition/personality like empathy, hand/eye coordination, and pain tolerance. The game is very cerebral, you'll be exploring a map and talking to characters inorder to solve a mystery which mainly takes the form of reading text and nativgating diolague trees (It's fully voiced). The game will definitely have you thinking as well as laughing, and because it's a role playing game your character will start adapting to your choices and habits, leading to them in some way resembling you the player.

--What I like--

Due to how the game has seemly endless variotions based on how you personally play it, each playthrough is a really personal expirience to whoever completes it. What I saw while playing it made me laugh, cry and just sit in awe of what can be created and conveyed through art. All the different aspects come together and work as a whole in such a way that it is what it is.

Mighty Switch Force!

Ultra stylish 2D puzzle-platformer/speedrun game.

--Gameplay--

You run around switching blocks to either be forward or backwards in order to find escaped prisons and find an exit. Each level can be completed at your own pace, but the game uses a par system that encourages you learn the layouts of each stage and complete them in under a certain amount of time.

--What I like--

It's so stylish and the gameplay loop is really fun if you just want a little distraction. The sound track is by one of my favorite composers ever, Jake Kauffman, and has to be one of my top albums of all time. It's a classic from the indie developer WayForward. I love all the original titles they put out so this game is just kinda represents all the things I like about what they put out.
